VICTOR
Varying Insulin doses for Changes TO Routine
VICTOR is a structured education programme for people with type 2 diabetes who use background and quick-acting insulin with some or all meals.
VICTOR aims to:
- Equip people with type 2 diabetes with the knowledge and skills to manage their condition effectively.
- Support physical, emotional and mental health
- Reduce the risk of complications
VICTOR is weight neutral; it is suitable for people using CGM or blood glucose diaries and can use fixed insulin doses or flexible insulin dose adjustment.
VICTOR uses psychological theory to encourage positive behaviour change.

The VICTOR course involves online learning and group support (online or face-to-face). VICTOR covers a range of topics to help people manage their glucose levels in a range of situations.

Post–course feedback
One hundred per cent of VICTOR participants who left feedback said they would recommend the course to others with type 2 diabetes.
I now adjust my background insulin to accommodate daily patterns, and quick-acting insulin depending on the food I eat. I previously had a limited diet as I could not tolerate gaining so much weight with set doses. Now I have been able to add some foods back into my diet and can match the insulin to the carb content.
This course was brilliant. It has completely changed my approach to using insulin and I’m now confidently determining the doses I need with excellent results. The trainers were absolutely brilliant!
I have learned to manage better around social occasions and with the aid of the CGM, been better able to predict and moderate carb intake to a better degree.
Managing my glucose levels better and being able to lower them enough to get a cortisone injection to treat pain elsewhere.
I learned how to count carbs. I eat my regular meals but now take my insulin 15 minutes before meals. My time in range is getting better just from these small adjustments.
It was great to work out the insulin to carb ratio and to understand corrections and adjustments.
