Does DAFNE still work with the advent of technology? The DAFNE programme performs an annual audit of patient outcomes from across all centres with paired HbA1c data (baseline pre-course and at 12 months post course), this year we had paired data for 1,892 (80%) of patients that completed their DAFNE course in 2021, either remotely, or face-to face.
These audits provide on-going evidence of the biomedical benefits to people with type 1 and a quality assurance process contributing to the high standard of diabetes education to which we all aspire.
DAFNE consistently:
- achieves a reduction in HbA1c; for those with a starting HbA1c of >58, a mean reduction of 5.2mmol/mol in 2021
- Increases the number of patients achieving a HbA1c of 58mmol/mol or less, 46% in 2021
- Reduces episodes of severe hypoglycaemia and DKA by 80%

We now have 110 centres across the UK, the average annual fee is just £4,800
