DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) is a way of managing Type 1 diabetes and provides people with the skills necessary to estimate the carbohydrate in each meal and to inject the right dose of insulin.
DAFNE stands for Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating. It aims to help adults with type 1 diabetes lead as normal a life as possible, whilst also maintaining blood glucose levels within healthy targets, to reduce the risk of long-term diabetes complications.
Since March 2020 face to face DAFNE courses across the UK and Republic of Ireland have been cancelled due to Covid-19. NHS and health organisation are looking at how they can recommence services, but many are currently unable to reintroduce face to face DAFNE training in a safe way.
In response to this, the DAFNE team have been working on the development of a new course – Remote DAFNE – which is a blend of online learning, workbook activities and remote group sessions facilitated by DAFNE educators. Since July 2020 over 70 DAFNE services have been trained on delivering this new course format.
Training on Remote DAFNE is now available for new and current DAFNE educators.
